About Open WebUI
Open WebUI is an open-source, self-hosted web interface designed for managing and interacting with local and cloud-based AI models. Originally created as an interface for Ollama, it has evolved into a complete enterprise-ready chat platform supporting OpenAI-compatible endpoints, Anthropic, and custom API backends.
The platform offers native Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) for querying uploaded PDFs and documents, granular role-based access control (RBAC), multi-user account management, web search synthesis, prompt templates, and customizable Python pipeline functions for fine-grained response handling.
- Full control over user data and model routing with zero external data leaks
- Native RAG engine with vector storage and document chunking built-in
- Granular multi-user administration, permissions, and group access controls
- Responsive mobile-friendly design with light and dark mode themes
- Requires Docker deployment and host system setup for non-technical users
- Document embedding and vector indexing speed depends on server CPU and GPU resources
- Frequent update cycles may require occasional configuration adjustments
